| Spotlight on Wine Centennial Fine Wine and Spirits Lexicon Malbec 2008 Malbec (pronounced as Mal-beck) is predominantly grown in Argentina now and has recently made a major splash on the wine scene; however this grape varietal also has a much older history behind its current popularity. Malbec was almost wiped out during the Phyloxera epidemic in Europe in the 1860’s and was generally used as a blending grape in Bordeaux. Luckily, this ancient grape varietal found its way to Argentina, but it can also still be found alive and well in a relatively unknown wine producing region of France called Cahors. In Cahors, this grape varietal is known as “Cot.” The usual flavor profile of Malbec has notes of ripe black plum, blackberry, rose petal, violets, and sometimes tobacco or black tea leaves. Specifically, Lexicon Malbec 2008 just got a huge mention on the Bulletin Board hosted on eRobertParker.com. Robert Parker highlights the Lexicon Malbec 2008 as a Super Value with the following quote: "Greed relief...global economic crisis distraction...just tasty wines available for a song...two more reasons why 2009 is The Year of the Wine Drinker....2008 Lexicon Malbec…Terrific plum, blackberry, forest floor aromas, dense ruby purple color, medium-bodied, silky tannins, and the finish and flavor intensity of a wine 2-3X the price....drink it over the next 1-2 years...amazing value...Malbec fruit bomb..."

| | Spotlight on Wine Centennial Fine Wine and Spirits O.T.P Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 If Zinfandel is traditionally considered the “workhorse” grape varietal of the California wine industry, then Cabernet Sauvignon (pronounced as Cab-air-nay So-vin-yawn) can be considered the “racehorse” grape varietal of the California wine industry. Cabernet Sauvignon is consistently the world’s most popular red grape varietal and tends to offers explosive power and showmanship; however it can also sometimes be a little “edgy” in its youth. Cabernet Sauvignon classically found its place in Bordeaux, especially within the regions of Medoc and Graves, where it produces such world renowned wines as Chateau Margaux and Chateau Latour. Generally, Cabernet Sauvignon can have a flavor profile of black currants, cassis, black cherry, black olives and plum. Specifically, the O.T.P Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 spent almost two years aging in small French Oak barrels (no edges on this Cabernet) and hails from the renowned Napa Valley sub-appellations of Oakville and Rutherford. This is a Cabernet lover’s dream with rich and intense flavors of ripe black plum, concentrated blackberries, lush black currants and mouth-coating cassis with an impeccable balance of acidity. | | Spotlight on Wine Centennial Fine Wine and Spirits Rogo, Spanish Red Blend 2006 Rogo is an intensely rich Spanish red blend produced in the tiny village of Cariñena. This historic village is located in northern Spain and is one of the oldest protected wine growing regions in Europe. In fact, the Romans founded this area back in 50 BC; however winemaking didn’t begin to thrive here until the Middle Ages when several local monasteries took a serious interest in producing wine. This region is also considered to be the birthplace of Carignan (pronounced as Cah’-reen-nyahn.) Carignan (also known as Mazuelo in Spain) is now widely planted throughout the south of France and curiously it is almost non-existent in its original birthplace of Cariñena. Specifically, Rogo has dominating rich and round characteristics of spiced black plums, dried boysenberries and ripe black currants with a slight hint of oil-cured black olives on the finish. Considering that this wine is produced from a field blend of Garnacha (Grenache) and Tempranillo (pronounced as temp-ra-nēyo) it’s not surprising to find these types of rich and enticing characteristics. This wine could certainly become a favorite for almost any “die-hard” red wine lover (especially when considering the price.) | | Spotlight on Wine Centennial Fine Wine and Spirits Snowline Washington State Riesling 2007 In the Northwest region of the United States, the Cascade Mountains are the dominate influence on the multiple micro-climates of this major wine producing area. The climates range from cool coastal areas (the perfect environment for Pinot Gris) to the high deserts, where varietals like Riesling, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon thrive in the long growing season. The extended hang time of the fruit, in this otherwise harsh environment, is the key to the depth of flavors in the brilliant wines from this region. With the aid of the Big River flowing off the east side of the Cascades, a once arid and stark landscape has blossomed into the exceptional vineyards of the Northwest. Specifically, the Snowline Washington State Riesling 2007 has enticing and aromatic flavors of ripe peaches and crisp yellow apples with a honeyed sweetness that layers nicely throughout the glass. The finish of this wine echoes the main flavor profile with an additional note of fresh nectarines with a slight hint of lemon zest. Perfect for everyday as an aperitif, but also pairs wonderfully with most soft cheeses and light culinary fare. All of the grapes are de-stemmed to create this Provençal Syrah that is brawny, ripe, bursting with black and red fruits and well structured tannins intermingled with classic Rhône spices." Excerpt from robertkacherselections.com Historically, Costières de Nîmes is considered to be one the oldest wine producing appellations in Europe. | | Spotlight on Wine Centennial Fine Wine and Spirits Ra Nui Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2007 “Ra Nui [Maori word for abundant sun] Wines is dedicated to producing premium hand crafted wine from uniquely favored vineyards within the Marlborough region. We believe that “the wine is in the grape” and so we focus on the vineyard and the grape, and we grow our wine using the time honored traditions of Sun, Soil and Passion. We are small and focused without constraint, and this allows us the hands on intensity that only a small winemaker can have. [The] grapes are handpicked in the vineyard and transported direct to the winery. At the winery further hand selection takes place discarding any unwanted fruit before transferring to the press. We then further ensure that we retain all purity of texture and flavor by whole bunch pressing for all white wines in order to minimize skin contact resulting in juice with fine texture and maximum flavor. We see ourselves as “guardians” of the grape and adopt a low key non interventionist approach to our winemaking.” Excerpt from ranuiwines.co.nz [The Ra Nui Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2007] “Exhibits intense lime, passionfruit and kiwifruit fruit characters. On the palate, passionfruit, kiwifruit, pineapple and pear flavors dominate. These intense fruit characters are balanced with crisp vibrant acidity and a long richly textured finish.
