Bordeaux Q&A with Lance Storer:

Our specialization in Bordeaux is broad and expansive, covering every major appellation in Bordeaux . Our price ranges are as diverse as the selection, with quality wines starting at $9 and going into the thousands, with hundreds of offerings in between. We are using free in-store tastings, less conventional display arrangements and direct importing as ways to stay ahead of our competition.

-What kind of variety does Centennial offer with Bordeaux?
Currently at the Preston Center location with have over 300 selections in stock of Bordeaux spanning every major growing area in Bordeaux and some very exciting wines from lesser known appellations as well.

-What does Centennial have to offer with Bordeaux that others do not?
The biggest thing that separates us from others is our variety. We also have knowledgeable wine consultants in each fine wine store that are well versed in the intricacies of Bordeaux . We go to Bordeaux every year to assess the quality first hand and are able to make intelligent buying decisions as a result of our tastings. Buying wine en primeur as a future allows us to secure wine that might not be available upon release at a lower price. This also insures that we can remain competitively priced in the marketplace.

-Describe some of the most popular Bordeaux
The most popular Bordeaux for us right now are the right bank offerings from Saint-Emilion, Pomerol and the Cotes de Castillon. Classic wines from the Medoc are always in demand as well.

-Describe some of the rarest Bordeaux
Some of the rarest wines that we are selling are Petrus, Le Pin, Valandraud and d'Yquem, as well as some antiquities offerings that come through sporadically.

-What is some general information about Bordeaux that the consumer needs to know?
The number one piece of advice I could give to someone looking to acquire Bordeaux is to find a merchant that you trust and develop a relationship with them. As consumers and consultants get to know each others tastes, likes and dislikes, the chances dramatically increase of getting an enjoyable selection suited to the customers taste. The second most important piece of information is to be careful. Only purchase Bordeaux from reputable wine merchants who know how to buy and store Bordeaux properly. If you are buying wine from an unknown entity and they are selling a wine at a drastically lower price than the national market, there is a greater than zero chance that you will get burned. Thirdly, look to less heralded appellations and vintages for some eminently compelling wines at superb values.
